Nonbinary erasure is a common occurrence that happens daily and to most without even thinking twice about it as something “hurtful” to individuals. In Western societies, the concept of only two genders being a man or a woman has been around since early colonialism and can be considered the reason for many issues such as toxic masculinity, gender inequality, and nonbinary erasure. As a nonbinary individual, I want those viewing to understand that language and beliefs they grew up is ultimately most likely rooted in an outdated concept. With that being said, my audience is mainly for those that aren’t nonbinary or gender-nonconforming that can gain knowledge to approach “gender norms” with a more progressive view.
